Research

During my thesis I studied the perception of alignments and curves in arrays of Gabor patches. On the one hand I set up psychophysical experiments to collect data on human perception. On the other hand, I designed and implemented detection algorithms based on a probabilistic approach (the a-contrario theory) to predict human performance.

During my first postdoc at the University of Southampton, I have studied the perception of surface orientations. The stimulus was a real surface of greyscale discs mounted to a pan-tilt unit, and seen through a small aperture. The ability to discriminate between two surfaces with differnt orientations, was modeled by a Bayesian ideal observer.
